Animal prints are hot! Hot! HOT! right now. They are appearing on everything from eyeglasses to dresses to handbags. Every stylish animal on the African Veldt is represented, from zebras to leopards. But the most popular trend seems to be giraffe purses.
These are fun, reasonably-priced bags that come in hundreds of shapes but all share the great print that has been in style in the giraffe community for thousands of years. The patches originally sported natural giraffe brown, then hints of red and blue started peeking out from among the duller spots.
Now giraffe print only refers to giraffe-type patches of any color with rivers of opposing colors running through them. Prints can appear in bright peach patches with a cream or white background.
It is interesting to see how many different styles purse designers can come up with starting with the same basic print. Some are punk or rocker purses with wide, studded heavy leather straps. Some are little, bright, perky numbers that shout I’m a girly girl and proud.” Some even come with tassels.

One of the best features about these handbags is that they are popular with celebrities in spite of their low price. Women for ages have watched actresses and models walking into awards ceremonies and trendy parties wearing fabulous dresses, dazzling jewelry and purses that would cost the average woman a year’s salary.
How delightful to see those same celebrities slinking across the red carpet proudly shouldering giraffe-print purses that they had their maids pick up at Amazon for under fifty dollars. It’s fun to have at least one thing in common with a millionaire.
There are some rules to carrying giraffe-print purses, if you want to look your urban best. These timeless abstract prints can be trendy for women of any age, but they should be careful of what they choose to go with them.
Don’t combine animal prints. A giraffe purse with snake-skin shoes, leopard-print glasses and a tiger dress are the modern equivalent of wearing Polka Dots with plaid.
Don’t go overboard on giraffe prints unless you are trying to look like one. Giraffe is the splashiest of all of the animal prints. Some of the smaller prints are neutral and subdued. Giraffe is outstanding. It’s a fun print for one or two accessories. If you are wearing a giraffe-print dress, choose neutral accessories with black, brown, red or tan.
Giraffe print bags in their original subdued colors look very trendy while retaining a common-sense business-like aura. The splashy, brighter colors look fun and playful. Choose what you carry based on the impression you want to make.
Giraffe-print purses have been popular for several years and the style seems destined to be around for many more. Since they combine the virtues of affordability, practicality and style the smart wardrobe will accommodate several. There are so many to choose from the real difficulty will be stopping at several. But then again – why try?
